Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Nazif, chaired a ministerial meeting in attendance of Ministers of Environment, Tourism and Local Development to discuss means of raising the environmental management efficiency of Sharm El-Sheikh, aiming at protecting the natural resources and increasing the developmental return therein. This would help increasing the tourism return provided by such unique location at the global tourism map. Such initiative comes within results of studies that showed the high environmental burden fall on the natural resources in Sharm El-Sheikh particularly coral reefs due to the unorganized management of diving and the beaches bad usage. In this concern, a new perspective shall be set to protect and manage these resources.
The meeting covered several points topped by setting a strategy to manage the coral reefs usage, as well as diving, tourism visits and beaches usage through an eco-friendly way, without affecting tourism or the economic return increase of the city. Digital determinations and environmental standards for diving shall be set using best international measures, aiming at protecting coral reefs.
The meeting tackled the solid wastes management in Sharm El-Sheikh and the surrounding area in an economic way, as the prime minister called for the necessity of achieving this in a strategic frame set by the environment ministry which would include a full steps model covering solid wastes treatment through collection, classification, and safe disposal. The system shall be managed in a suitable way meeting the importance and nature of the city.
They covered the need of setting a new way to manage Sharm El-Sheikh, under supervision of the Local Development Ministry, to guarantee the contribution of all concerned authorities and ministries in protecting the city's natural resources, and being a model for managing other cities afterwards.
