Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Nazif, chaired a ministerial committee meeting regarding Luxor governorate development. The meeting was attended by Ministers of Culture, Investment, Water Resources and Irrigation, as well as Luxor Governor, and representatives of the relevant ministries.
The meeting discussed available alternatives to solve issues relating to harboring the floating hotels in Luxor. The Prime Minister instructed the committee to study the various alternatives for adequately dealing with such an issue, given that during the peak of the tourism season, the number of floating hotels harboring in Luxor amounts to 120.
The meeting also tackled the Golden Triangle, located between El-Kebash Road and the River Nile, extending from Al-Karnak hotel to Luxor Temple. In this respect, the Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of developing this area, and restoring its glory, through evacuating the place from occupancies, and making it a green area, while preserving few buildings.
It is worth noting that Luxor governorate faces a number of challenges affecting the environment of such historical governorate, especially due to the pollution generated from the floating hotels. The development of creative solutions ti these challenges necessitates finding means to move the floating hotels outside the vicinity of the historical places within governorate, while at the same time providing them with appropriate places to harbor, along with adequate services and security.
