Dr. Ahmed Nazif has been appointed as a Prime Minister of Egypt in July 2004. As a prominent expert in Information Technology and Software Engineering, he was chosen in October 1999 as the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, a challenging position with the task of establishing the first Ministry in that field in Egypt.

The professional experience of Dr. Nazif extends back to over 28 years, during which he worked in different positions in academic, public, and private sectors as well as NGOs. His academic career commenced in 1973 as a graduate in the Electronics and Communications Department of the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University in which he also received his Post-graduate Masters in electrical engineering in 1976.

Afterwards, he obtained a Ph.D. degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada for his research in the field of computer vision in 1983. He continued his academic activities thereafter as an assistant professor, associate professor then professor of computer engineering at Cairo University till 1999. For his academic achievements, Dr. Ahmed Nazif was granted the First Order Medal of Science and Art in Egypt. Dr. Nazif’s experience in public establishments included his work at the Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) in Cairo for 15 years as Information Systems Manager (1985-1989), Executive Manager (1989-1996), and Chairman of the Advisory Board (1996- 1999). During his period in the IDSC, Dr. Nazif has supervised the planning and implementation of several national programmes and projects including the mega project namely the National ID, as well as other regional projects through the Regional Information Technology and Software Engineering Center (RITSEC) where he was the executive chairman.

Dr. Nazif has worked in several positions in the private sector topped by being chairman of the Legislation and Development Information Systems (LADIS), and board member of MEDSYS and Misr for Construction and Building Information (MCBI). Dr. Nazif is one of the founders of the Egyptian Internet Society and Society for Information Management, and member in the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).

It is worth noting that Dr. Nazif is married and has two children.
